How to Enjoy a 7-day Vacation Even if Your Bag is Lost or Delayed
Picture this: you’ve planned your dream vacation, you’ve curated the Instagram perfect wardrobe for your trip, you’ve made it to the airport and through security, sipped on your in-flight cocktail only to arrive at your destination and find yourself waiting and waiting at baggage claim. Your bag isn’t there.
This happened to my friend recently and maybe it’s happened to you - you’re forced to check in your bag at the gate because they’ve run out of space! All she had was her backpack.
This made me think more about how to pack just in case the worst thing happens - your bags get lost or delayed! Here are some tips to still make your vacation enjoyable and stress free!
1. Wear layers at the airport. This way you have some options for clothes to re-wear. We love a pullover sweatshirt over a tank. I also love scarfs that can be used not only as a blanket in case you’re cold during your flight, but can be repurposed to up-level your limited travel wardrobe. These silky neck scarves also come in handy when you’re in the “less is more” mood - tie it around your backpack when you’re not wearing it.
2. Pack these items in your carry-on, backpack or tote bag:
- Wanderlush Mini Essentials: We’ve got you covered easily here, in this perfect kit we have ibuprofen, makeup remover wipes, disposable toothbrushes, and lip balm. Plus, it comes in a cute drawstring bag so you can refill it for your next trip!
- A hair clip and a hat can easily switch up an outfit and you’ll hardly notice if you’re wearing the same clothes in your pictures.
- If you’re going somewhere warm, you’ll love having this 2-in-1 beach towel bag. You can put your mini essentials in it and then hit up the beach! Or if you prefer a smaller bag so you can swap from day to night, you can opt for the mini wallet/phone crossbody.
- Pack an extra versatile tank or tee that can be worn different ways
- I always pack detergent pods with me. Steve is allergic to fragrant detergent, so I pack the scent-free ones and it’s saved us on so many occasions when we have to do laundry. Drop a few in with your make-up bag.
- Pack a few extra undergarments, because … well, who doesn’t like clean underwear?
- For bottoms, I would pack an extra pair of leggings and lightweight shorts. Again, make sure they’re versatile so they can be swapped in/out.
- You can pack a few pieces of jewelry in this canvas wristlet - it may be small, but it can double as a day purse as well. Just take a few essentials with you when you’re out and about.
- Lastly, shoes. I always wear my tennis shoes because they’re bulky and I would pack a pair of flip/flops in my backpack instead - and don’t forget that extra pair of ankle socks.
3. If you’re traveling with friends, coordinate outfits so you can swap - it’s a bonus when you wear the same shoe size!
Happy travels!
